“After looking at one
of my handwoven shawls, people
often wonder how I as a blind
person can do it!
Well, here is my story.
When we moved to Harpswell
seven years ago, I had no notion
of becoming a weaver, let alone
a Maine businesswoman. We moved
into our house on the water
and I listened to the birds
and the sound of the waves.
I enjoyed the hum of the lobster
boats and worked in my garden.
But I needed something more
to do—something new.
So I started looking around.
Halcyon Yarn in Bath had an
open house. I was amazed at
the yarns of every description
stacked up to the ceiling.
I sat down at a small floor
loom and my husband knew it
was all over.”
