Mary Morton Cowan, author of Captain Mac: The Life of Donald Baxter MacMillan, Arctic Explorer, will speak at Thornton Oaks on Thursday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m.
A graduate of Bates College, whose family owned Paris Manufacturing Company in South Paris, Mrs. Cowan writes children’s books, but says this book will be suitable for all ages.
Cowan has written books focusing on the timber industry and Arctic
exploration and has penned more than 70 articles for such noted children’s magazines as Jack and Jill, Highlights and Cobblestone.
Those of you who took the Exploritas (Elderhostel) class a Thornton Oaks in January may have met Mrs. Cowan and her husband in that class.
Her stories about how she met MacMillan and his local ties as well as her writing process should
provide an interesting program.
Come - - - invite a friend, and why not follow with lunch in the Thornton Oaks dining room.
